Secret lives of Xinjas: ecoXinja & iFruityXinja

We think it’s important to really get to know our Xinja work comrades; unpack what they’re really into – as you never know where that hobby might come in handy when you’re designing and building a bank.

In this series, we bring you the secret lives of Xinjas; an exploration of what rocks their world. We introduce this fresh duo #ecoXinja Lisa and #iFruityXinja Jonathon.

What’s the best thing you’ve spent money on? “The coffee I bought this morning. Or perhaps yesterday – #iFruityXinja

What is your Xinja name and what do you do at Xinja?

Lisa: #ecoXinja, I am a UX lead.

Jonathon: #iFruityXinja – I am the Lead Mobile Engineer for iOS and other Apple products.

What are you most proud of working at Xinja?

Lisa: Identifying what is important to our users and translating that into the products we design for them.

Jonathon: Our incredibly fast paced product design, build, and delivery lifecycle while maintaining the highest standard of quality.

We hire Xinjas with a voracious learning mindset. What is the latest thing you’ve read, heard or seen that blew your mind?

Lisa:  I saw this quote when I was in design school and it helps to validate my job: “70% to 80% of new product development that fails does so not for lack of advanced technology, but because of a failure to understand users’ needs.” – Eric Von Hippen, MIT Business School.

Jonathon:  I’ve been learning recently about the origins of the elements – how different atoms and matter came to exist and where it all came from. Super nerdy stuff but incredibly interesting!

What future technology or trend excites you the most?

Lisa: Biodesign – Using ecological principles or natural phenomena to design new products and solutions.

Jonathon: Holidaying on the Moon (or Mars?).

How would you describe your relationship with money?

Lisa: Harmonious and pragmatic.

Jonathon: Save and invest what I can, with a more-frequent-than-ideal splurge!

Confession time – what do you waste money on?

Lisa: Holidays, furniture and the occasional nice dinner.

Jonathon: Techy stuff and my motorcycle.

Halo time – what’s the best thing you’ve spent money on?

Lisa: A very comfortable mattress.

Jonathon: The coffee I bought this morning. Or perhaps yesterday.

If you weren’t at Xinja, what would you be doing?

Lisa: Saving the environment.

Jonathon: I’d go camping, or if money was no object, I’d be on my new boat!

Weekend hobby: “Playing board games with friends, shopping at 2nd hand stores and markets, tending my indoor plants, generally being a hipster. – #ecoXinja Lisa

What is your weekend hobby

Lisa: Playing board games with friends, shopping at 2nd hand stores and markets, tending my indoor plants, generally being a hipster.

Jonathon: I usually manage to get a small amount of video game time in between social commitments and other activities.

If you were to get a tattoo, what would it say or what would the image be?

Lisa: I would get an image of a lotus flower in the rain, because that’s my Chinese name.

Jonathon: My future kids’ names, but it’d have to wait until I’ve had them!
