We don’t engage in immoral lending; if our grandmother would think it was wrong, then it is. We aim to make lots of money ethically and we are proud of it. 
  5. No one is entitled to work at Xinja. It is a huge honour to represent people’s hopes of a new bank and we earn that honour every day. 
  6. We look after our people bloody well. We stand by them if they are in genuine need. 
  7. We are truthful and direct with each other. Everyone says what they think in a robust, challenging, edgy environment. That means we won’t be the right place for everyone to work, and that’s ok. 
  8. We only hire people better than us. We never, ever settle because we need a body. We do psychometric testing to get the best people, every time. 
  9. About half our team, executive and board will be female, if they aren’t we aren’t recruiting the best people. We actively seek all types of diversity combined with brilliance.

The Role

As a cracking Senior Manager – Enterprise Risk, you’re responsible for helping to ensure Xinja has an appropriate and robust risk management framework (together with supporting policies, procedures and governance) to identify and manage enterprise risks across Xinja’s end to end business/products. 

This is a challenging and exciting role and reports to the Head of Enterprise Risk, helping  to implement and embed the Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Program across Xinja.

You are also responsible for ensuring Xinja remains compliant and maintains the highest standards of ethical banking and lending practices. We have zero tolerance for deliberate non-compliance or ethical breaches.

Planning and execution are at the core of Xinja, so we are looking for someone who is able to start running from day one. You need to:

  • be willing to roll up your sleeves and get things done;
  • be able to deal with ambiguity and change in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • be open-minded and willing to learn; and
  • be a key contributor to the Xinja team. 

You also work closely with a number of key stakeholders within Xinja across the end to end business (eg Product and Delivery, Xinjarati, Banking Operations, IT Operations, Information Security, Legal) to ensure that all aspects of the risk management framework are understood, implemented and embedded.

Role specific responsibilities

Key deliverables: 

  • Developing and enhancing existing enterprise risk management policies, frameworks, guidelines and templates;
  • Monitoring adherence to the above frameworks and policies and reporting breaches;
  • Lead in the execution of implementing and embedding the central risk and compliance system including training, and assisting the CRO in encouraging proactive use across Xinja;
  • Providing regular and ad-hoc reporting for various Executive Forums;
  • Reviewing and challenging the effectiveness of Line 1 in 
    • their identification and mitigation of enterprise risks through the Risk and Control Self Assessment process;
    • outcomes from control assurance program (attestations and testing); and
    • issue and incident management including review of remedial actions, escalation and reporting and timeliness of resolution;
  • Ensure appropriate processes and tools are in place in order to assess Xinja’s risk culture and promote the Code of Conduct and Xinja’s 10 Golden Rules;
  • Being an active contributor to the successful performance and achievement of outcomes for the team; and
  • In the event of a stress event, execute operational procedures as directed within the agreed timeframes.

Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 7 – 10 years’ experience working in enterprise risk management in Line 1 and Line 2 risk roles;
  • Have significant experience in key risk activities (RCSAs, Control Assurance, Incident Management, Issue Management, Risk in Change etc);
  • Have some IT and / or project risk experience;
  • Experience in developing and executing enterprise risk policies and frameworks;
  • Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with proven leadership qualities;
  • Ability to create and maintain business relationships both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills;
  • Foster the delivery and adoption of new technologies to analyse and manage enterprise risk;
  • Work with technical, business and operations teams to meet Xinja’s required risk outcomes;
  • Ability to meet deadlines, make independent decisions and utilise sound judgement;
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courage and trustworthiness;
  • Ability to interact with regulators (ASIC, APRA. AUSTRAC); and
  • Be degree qualified, e.g. Commerce, Economics, Business, Law or similar.


You will also: 

  • Have an interest in banking, finance and fintech;
  • Have a customer centric mindset and will act with their interests at the centre of your work;
  • Be excited to build a new bank designed for customers;
  • Be passionate, have drive and be willing to roll your sleeves up;
  • Be a quick learner and self-starter, and can thrive in ambiguity; and
  • Be a great problem-solver and prepared to go the extra mile (this is still a  start-up!)
